1. AGREEMENT

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and the operator of Language Teacher (“we”, “us”, “our”) governing your access to and use of:

• The website and learning application at https://languageteacher.io (the “Service”),
• Any related APIs, documentation, and support channels we provide,
• The optional Language Teacher Chrome extension that connects to the Service.

By using the Service, creating an account, or installing the extension, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. ELIGIBILITY

You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live (typically 18, or 13+ with parental consent where allowed). The Service is for personal language learning unless we agree otherwise in writing.

3. ACCOUNTS

You are responsible for your account credentials and for all activity under your account. Provide accurate registration information and notify us promptly at contact@languageteacher.io if you suspect unauthorized access.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, abuse the Service, attempt to compromise security, or scrape or overload our systems.

4. THE SERVICE

Language Teacher provides language-learning tools including quizzes, character catalogs, progress statistics, heatmaps, study decks, reading features, and related content for languages such as Japanese, Thai, and Danish. Features may change, move, or be removed as we improve the product.

No professional advice. Content is for education and self-study only. It is not a substitute for formal instruction, certification, medical, legal, or professional advice. We do not guarantee exam results, fluency timelines, or completeness of every translation or explanation.

AI-assisted content. Some lesson or vocabulary material may be created or assisted by automated systems and later reviewed. Automated content can contain errors. Use your judgment and report problems via Support.

Availability. We strive for reliable uptime but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Maintenance, third-party outages (hosting, database, email), or force majeure may cause downtime.

5. CHROME EXTENSION

The Kanji Heatmap extension is optional software distributed via the Chrome Web Store (or unpacked for development). By installing it you also agree to Google’s terms for Chrome extensions where applicable.

• You must be signed in to the Service in the same browser for heatmap colors and deck actions to work.
• The extension processes page text locally to find kanji; it does not grant us a license to copy entire third-party websites.
• You are responsible for complying with the terms of websites you visit while the extension is active.
• Do not use the extension to circumvent paywalls, DRM, or access controls on other sites.

We may update or discontinue the extension; continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of the updated extension behavior described in store listings and our Privacy Policy.

6. ACCEPTABLE USE

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for unlawful, harassing, or fraudulent purposes.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code except where law expressly permits.
• Probe or attack our infrastructure, bypass authentication, or access another user’s data.
• Use bots or scrapers to harvest content or statistics at scale without written permission.
• Upload malware, spam, or content that infringes intellectual property or privacy rights.
• Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Service or its content without permission.
• Misrepresent your identity or affiliation with Language Teacher.

We may investigate violations and cooperate with law enforcement where required.

7. YOUR CONTENT AND DATA

Learning data you generate (quiz results, decks, preferences) is associated with your account as described in our Privacy Policy. You retain ownership of original text you paste into tools such as reading previews, subject to the license below.

By submitting content to us (for example support messages or feedback), you grant us a non-exclusive license to use that content to operate, support, and improve the Service. Do not submit confidential or sensitive personal data unrelated to support needs.

8. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

The Service, including its design, branding, software, curated datasets, and original materials, is owned by us or our licensors and protected by copyright and other laws. We grant you a limited, revocable, non-transferable license to access and use the Service for personal learning in accordance with these Terms.

Character readings, dictionary entries, and third-party linguistic data may be subject to separate licenses. You may not redistribute bulk exports of our database, generated posters, or API responses without permission.

“Language Teacher” and related logos are our trademarks. Do not use them in a way that implies endorsement without consent.

9. FREE USE AND PAID SUBSCRIPTIONS

You may use the Service with a free account. Optional Pro subscriptions (monthly or annual, as shown on the site) are billed through Stripe when you choose to subscribe. Prices, renewal intervals, and taxes (if applicable) are shown at checkout. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel through the Stripe Customer Portal (linked from your Account page) or as otherwise described at purchase.

Refunds, if any, are handled according to Stripe and our support policy at the time of purchase. We may change pricing for new subscribers with notice; existing subscriptions are governed by Stripe billing terms until canceled.

10. THIRD-PARTY LINKS AND SERVICES

The Service may link to external sites (for example dictionary references or support resources). We are not responsible for third-party content or practices. Authentication through Google is subject to Google’s policies. Hosting and database operations rely on our infrastructure providers as described in the Privacy Policy.

11. DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES

THE SERVICE AND EXTENSION ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE ERROR-FREE, THAT CONTENT IS COMPLETELY ACCURATE, OR THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED.

12. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE AND OUR SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) AMOUNTS YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) FIFTY US DOLLARS (USD $50) IF YOU HAVE NOT PAID US. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS; IN THOSE CASES OUR LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO THE MINIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

13. INDEMNITY

You agree to defend and indemnify us against claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service, violation of these Terms, or infringement of third-party rights.

14. TERMINATION

You may stop using the Service at any time and may request account deletion via contact@languageteacher.io. We may suspend or terminate access immediately for breach of these Terms or risk to the Service or other users. Sections that by nature should survive (intellectual property, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity, governing law) will survive termination.

15. CHANGES

We may modify these Terms by posting an updated version on this page with a new effective date. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice. Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance. If you disagree with an update, stop using the Service.

16. GOVERNING LAW AND DISPUTES

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable to the operator of Language Teacher, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts in that jurisdiction will have exclusive venue for disputes, except that either party may seek injunctive relief for intellectual property misuse in any competent court.

17. GENERAL

• If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
• Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
• You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger or sale of the Service.
• These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement regarding the Service.
